SAVE THE
SHARKS

Sharks have been swimming across the Big Blue for well over 400 million years, they have evolved to become the greatest predator in our oceans. Without them - the ecosystem would fail and collapse.

The Great White Shark like all sharks are rapidly declining in number.
This magnificent creature is one of the most misunderstood animals on our planet.
However still seen by many small minded idiots as a mindless killing machine. They have been depicted as nothing more then blood thirsty beasts in many inaccurate movies and because of this -generation upon generation have passed down there baseless fear of these beautiful and misunderstood creatures.

Truth is- Shark's are far more fearsome
in our imaginations than in reality.

CLOSE TO ALL SHARK SPECIES ARE ENDANGERED

MILLIONS ARE SLAUGHTED EVERYDAY

Sharks are killed for greed as there Jaws, Fins, Skins, Cartilage an Teeth worn by the average looser fetch a insane price on world markets. For example Great White Sharks jaws can fetch upwards of twenty thousand dollars.

SHARKS LIKE ALL ANIMALS MUST BE

ADMIRED, PROTECTED AND RESPECTED

FOR WE SHARE THIS ONE WORLD WITH THEM

The Great White Shark have become so threatened that scientists fear that, without protection, they will slide into extinction.
Through out the world the White Shark has become hunted both by sports fishermen for trophies and commercial fisherman.

Shark populations worldwide are decreasing at alarming rates
THE CAUSES ARE

SHARK NETS

Shark meshing programs have a significant environmental cost, Killing all that get caught in the net. Including protected and endangered species.
Many sharks drown every year after becoming entangled in nets intended for other species.

OVER FISHING

Shark populations take a long time to recover from overfishing. They grow very slowly and take a long time to reach sexual maturity. 20 years or more in some species. When they do reproduce, they produce very few offspring compared to other food fish species.
Without sharks to help maintain a healthy balance, marine environments are at great risk of permanent damage.

BY-CATCH

Millions of sharks die every year after being caught by means intended to catch other fish, especially on Longlines intended for tuna and swordfish.
In the Mediterranean sea alone, as many as 100,000 sharks die as a result of by-catch every year. While by-catch of other species such as dolphins has declined after highly publicised campaigns to protect them, the undeserved bad reputation of sharks is slowing down efforts to protect them from this wasteful and destructive practice.

SHARK PRODUCTS

A massive industry is developing around the use of shark products for improving human health, despite the lack of good scientific evidence to support it. Oil extracted from the livers of sharks is becoming increasingly popular as a booster for the immune system and even as a way of preventing cancer, thanks to an erroneous belief that sharks don’t suffer from cancerous tumors. Shark cartilage is harvested for the same reason.

SHARK FINNING

Every year as many as 100 million sharks die a slow death due to this torture.
Finning is the inhumane practice involves catching a shark, hacking off its fins and discarding the rest of the animal, which is often thrown back into the sea to die. The shark either starves to death or drown (if they are not in constant movement their gills cannot extract oxygen from the water).

Shark fins are being "harvested" in ever greater numbers to feed the growing demand for shark fin soup, an Asian "delicacy".
However some countries, such as USA, have banned shark finning in the last few years but finning is still practiced all over the world in places as far apart as South American and Australia Not only is the finning of sharks barbaric, but their indiscriminate slaughter at an unsustainable rate is pushing many species to the brink of extinction.

QUESTIONS I'M TIRED OF HEARING

Why are Surfers targeted ?

For starters us humans no matter if we on a board or not are not targeted by landlord (great white sharks) at all.
Of the 100-plus annual shark attacks Worldwide, Close to all of these attacks are no fatal. Research finds that great whites, who are naturally curious, are "sample biting" then releasing their victims rather than preying on humans. It ain't like they have hands people.

Why Sharks mistake Surfers for food?

Check our outline mate
(we look like seals when on our boards)..
Also some surfers spend up to 50 hours a week in the big blue chasing the wave. Do the math, the longer you spend in the water the greater chance you have of seeing a whale, dolphin or shark.

WE HAVE A MUCH GREATER CHANCE OF GETTING HIT BY A DOLPHIN

Do they like the taste of human ?

Dude I'm so over this question, in short NO !!!
If they did every time we entered the water for a dip. we would not come out. Its that simple.

THERE IS HOPE

SAVE
*THE GREAT AMAZON RAINFOREST*

* Todays Amazon Jungle*

The money greedy Peruvian government has pushed through legislation that could allow extractive and large scale farming companies to rapidly destroy their Amazon rainforest.

The indigenous people of Peru have peacefully protested for over two months demanding the government to reconsider. These tribal people who still call the Amazon there home, will be forced from there lands, imprisoned or even killed if they don't cooperate with government.

But last weekend President Garcia responded: sending in special forces to suppress protests in violent clashes, and labelling the protesters as terrorists.

We all need to wake up. Never believe what they the media try and feed us. Governments world wide rape, exploit an destroy the earth for there own greed.

The amazon region is home to at least 40,000 plant species, 3,000 fish, 1,294 birds, 427 mammals, 428 amphibians, and 378 reptiles. One in five of all the birds in the world live in the rainforests of the Amazon.

The bigger picture is as deforestation an mining take over the Amazon, it will wipe out countless spices of animals an plant life. This in turn will force animals closer to city's, Hunting and the nature of man to exploit for greed- will mean the black marked will flourish causing a bleak outlook for all wildlife.

*CAUSE AND EFFECT*

Future generations will not have the chance to enjoy the beauty and slender of the natural world. the world that we all take for granted.

These indigenous groups are on the front line of the struggle to protect our earth.

*We must hear the call an come to the need of our brothers an sister of the Amazon*

Let's all stand with them and call on President Alan Garcia, to immediately stop the violence and open up dialogue.

More than 70 per cent of the Peruvian Amazon is now up for grabs. Giant oil and gas companies, like the Anglo-French Perenco and the North Americans Conoco Phillips and Talisman Energy, have already pledged multi-billionaire investments in the region. These big company's have a very poor record of bringing benefits to local people and preserving the environment in developing countries.

This is why indigenous groups are asking for internationally recognized rights to consultation on the new laws.

The Amazon are the lungs of our planet. It breaths in the carbon emissions that cause global warming and producing oxygen.

WITHOUT THEM WHAT FUTURE DO WE REALLY HAVE ?

For far too long have world governments an the United Nation stood by and allowed the rape and destruction of our mother earth. its up to all of us to unite an do all we can to bring about change and free mother earth.

*HOW TO BRING ABOUT CHANGE*

* Get ya mates together, Start up a petition

- Write to your Local Government.

- Hand out information flyer's.

* Organise Marches an Protest - Demand the change !!!!!!

* or simply just plant the seed in the mind of others- inform them of the real world

WORLD REFUGEE DAY

20th JUNE

As we await the seventh anniversary of the United Nations designated World Refugee Day.
Let all the world people unite under the one flag of humanity. Let us all honour the courage, resilience and strength of all refugees.

40 million people today, Do not just flee persecution and war but also injustice, exclusion, environmental pressures and competition for scarce resources. This number sadly will only increase as more people flee in the hope of a better life.

However the United Nations and the U.N.H.C.R especially have over 6,500 people in more than 116 countries continues to help 34.4 million people.

For further information follow this link- http://www.unhcr.org/

The 20th of June is a day for all people to put aside there petty differences,
Its another chance to awaken change, to break the old chains that keep humanity apart.

See ourselves as Brothers and Sisters of one Earth an embrace the power of ONE LOVE

Open the worlds boarders to ONE LOVE.

THE BIG BLUE NEEDS YOU

The World Ocean's cover 74 percent of the earths surface an with it creates over half our oxygen, drives weather systems and is home to 80 percent of all the life on Earth.

However we are quickly killing The Big Blue,

We have a responsibility to defend our oceans because without them, life on Earth cannot exist. Its up to all of us to act now on behalf of all lifeforms that call not just the oceans home, but the Earth home.

The rapid rate of destruction is deeply alarming. Both large an small corporations are raping the ocean for profit an greed, having no regard to life its self, instead using the ocean as there own toxic garbage dump. Degraded and stripped of their diversity, ocean ecosystems are losing their inherent ability to regenerate. However its not just big business that's to blame, our carelessness attitude is wiping out 1000's of species daily.

Take the Leatherback Turtle for example.

This animal has been swimming the big blue for 100 million years, survived the extinction of the dinosaurs. We are threatened them with extinction, due to plastic garbage that we humans directly and indirectly deposit in the oceans.

ALL GARBAGE WE DISCARD FINDS ITS WAY INTO THE OCEAN !!

KILLING MILLIONS OF ANIMALS DAILY
*HOW CLEARLY ARE WE RECIEVING THIS MESSAGE *

THE RAPE OF THE WORLD'S OCEAN.

*OVERFISHING

-Canadian Fisheries expert Dr Daniel Pauly warns that "if this continues our children will be eating jellyfish. Meaning, more and more fishing fleets are competing for less and less fish and worsening the existing oceans crisis.

*FISHING NETS/ BOTTOM TRAWLING

-Every year, fishing nets kill up to 300,000 Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises, Sharks an Turtles globally. Drowning in these nets is the greatest threat to the survival of many species. Bottom trawling, destroys entire ancient deep sea coral forests and other delicate ecosystems. In some areas it is the equivalent of ploughing a field several times a year.

*THE FISHERIES

-The traditional fishing grounds in the north have all but dryed up due to over fishing, Large fishing fleets has increasingly turned to Africa and the Pacific. Pirates that ignore regulations and effectively steal fish are denying some of the poorest regions of the world much needed food security and income. Greedy governments turn a blind eye as there pockets grow deep.

THE FARMING INDUSTARY
(Unsustainable aquaculture)

-Aquaculture (fish and shellfish farming) is seen as the future of the seafood industry, but it is not a solution to overfishing. Many modern aquaculture practices emphasise the unsustainable production of species for high-value export markets. Rapid expansion of intensive aquaculture has resulted in widespread degradation of the environment and the displacement of coastal fishing and farming communities.

SHRIMP AQUACULTURE

-Shrimp aquaculture industry is the most destructive, unsustainable and unjust fisheries industry in the world. Mangrove clearances, fishery destruction, murder and community land clearances have all been widely reported.

*GLOBAL WARMING

-The ocean and its inhabitants will be irreversibly affected by the impacts of global warming and climate change. Scientists say that global warming, by increasing sea water temperatures, will raise sea levels and change ocean currents. The effects are already beginning to be felt. Whole species of marine animals and fish are at risk due to the temperature rise - they simply cannot survive in the changed conditions. For example, increased water temperatures are thought to be responsible for large areas of corals turning white and dying (bleaching).

*POLLUTION

-Another significant impact of human activity on the marine environment is pollution. The most visible and familiar is oil pollution caused by tanker accidents. Yet despite the scale and visibility of such impacts, the total quantities of pollutants entering the sea from oil spills are dwarfed by those of pollutants introduced from other sources. These include domestic sewage, industrial discharges, urban and industrial run-off, accidents, spillage, explosions, sea dumping operations, mining, agricultural nutrients and pesticides, waste heat sources, and radioactive discharges. 8 million tons of toxic waste is dumped illegally into the sea.

There are always solutions and measures necessary to create sustainable oceans.

World wide governments need to come together to address this massive problem facing the marine world. because what happens underwater affects everything above the water.

Strict controlled Marine reserves are the only solution can be defined as areas of the ocean in which the exploitation of all living resources is prevented.

ALSO

Strict controlled laws need to be enforced by the United Nations or a moral worldwide governing body. Hefty penaltals given out to ALL who do not abide my the laws. Fines, Boats seized and Imprisionment and needs to be enforced by these authorities.

Working together we will bring that change

Without the Oceans there is NO LIFE NO EARTH.

SUPPORT THE WORLD'S TRUE HERO

DAW AUNG SAN SUU KYI

After 13 years under house arrest, Burma's Nobel Peace prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, has been locked up on new charges, just days before her detention was due to expire.

May 14th, Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested and sent to jail, charged in connection with an American man who allegedly invaded the compound where she is being held in Yangon. Accussing her of a breach of house arrest, Aung San Suu had no knowledge of this American man untill the time of her arrest.

I feel this is to keep her detained until after elections which are set for 2010.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's is the greatest threat to the militarys hold on power.
As she is the only figure who could face down the military in elections next year.

May 27 1990, Her (National League for Democracy Party) won a landslide victory in the general elections by securing 82 percent of the seats. The military junta refuses to recognize the results of the election. Insted she was keeped detained by this cruel military rule.
In the same year she was awarded the Rafto Human Rights Prize.

This strong motervated women has been detained over and over again since 1988. under house arrest and allowed no contact with the outside world. However this new detention in the notorious Insein Prison, without medical care will be very dangerous as she is seriously ill.

WILL THE U.N NOT ACT !!!

Now is the time for the worlds people an the true United Nations to stand up.

SWINE FLU
TRUTH ABOUT FACTORY FARMS

Swine flu has been the cause of death for more then 150 people world wide. And may slowly become a global pandemic. As more information comes to the surface it's becoming clearer where it originated from- a massive pig factory farm run by an American multinational corporation in Veracruz, Mexico.

All factory farms are a disgusting outrage, however this practice is spreading across the globe at a rapid rate. Millions of pigs are treated is such a disgraceful manner, that honestly i heart broken to tell you. Factory pigs see no sun in their limited lives, with no hay to lie on, no mud to roll in. The sows live in tiny cages, so narrow they can’t even turn around. Through there daily lives they are brutally treated and pumped with a cocktail of drugs.

Since Swine flu has the global world on notice. This is the time more should be done for all the factory animals. Make your voice be heard people.

News from the people that know

- The World Health Organization has been saying for years that 'a new pandemic is inevitable'

- Experts from the European Commission and the Food and Agriculture Organisation have cautioned that the rapid move from small holdings to industrial pig production is in fact increasing the risk of development and transmission of disease epidemics.

- The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that scientists still do not know the extent that infectious compounds produced in factory farms affect human health.

Smithfield Corparation, the largest pig producer in the world has already been fined $12.6m and is currently under another federal investigation in the US for toxic environmental damage from pig excrement lakes.

Does the world truly care ? Each year there is a increase in global meat consumption. The powerful industry only see profit, they don't care about the human or animal cost.
These practices should be shut down an the people in charge made accountable.

This will not be the last preventable disease threatening the world's people due to factory farms.
Factory farms create the perfect conditions to breed a more dangerous viruses like Swine flu.
