THE DEVIDE

BRIDGE THE GAP- BETWEEN THE RICH AND POOR NATIONS

The divide between the rich and the poor nations is absurd and growing rapidly out of control. The world's main watch dog The United Nations is helpless.

The UN's food and agricultural organisation and other analysts estimate that nearly 20m hectares (50m acres) of third world farmland have been sold or negotiated for sale or lease in the last six months. This is lead by the wealthier countries too concerned about there own food securities.

Put into perspective, 10m hectares were bought last year!!!

The Largest Deals Include
- South Korea's acquisition of 700,000ha in Sudan.
- Saudi Arabia's purchase of 500,000ha in Tanzania.
- The Democratic Republic of the Congo expects to shortly conclude an 8m-hectare deal with a group of South African businesses to grow maize and soya beans as well as poultry and dairy farming.
- India has lent money to 80 companies to buy 350,000ha in Africa.
- At least six countries are known to have bought large landholdings in Sudan, one of the least food secure countries in the world.

Big Business Deals Include
- Alpcot Agro of Sweden bought 120,000ha in Russia
- South Korea's Hyundai bought majority stake of 10,000ha in Eastern Siberia
- Morgan Stanley has bought 40,000ha in Ukraine.
- South Korea's Daewoo signed a 99-year lease for 1.3m hectares of agricultural land in Madagascar.

I can not comprehend the greed and total disregard for human life. It's a disgrace and an outrage that in country's where people are dying every second from a lack of food and water, that the value of money can surpass the value of life !!

The natural world is enslaved, constantly pushed aside in the quest for human consumption. This destruction leads to devastated soils, dry aquifer, and ruined ecology only to be left for these already crippled host countries to pick up.

Increased investment may bring an improvement in government revenues, may create opportunities for economic development and livelihood for improvement.
But what for the people of the land ?? The local people will lose far more then what were lead to believe. Once the resources are dried up and the land destroyed.

WHATS LEFT FOR THEM ?

Makes you think don't it.

According to a US-based thinktank, the International Food Policy Research Institute, nearly $20bn to $30bn a year is being spent by rich countries on land in developing countries.

MAKE THE STAND, LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T !!!!!

Protest or Write to your local Government and demand the change.
